TL;DR

My read-it-later service of choice is going away. It was a really good open source alternative to Readwise but I will take the opportunity to consolidate my bookmarking.

Sad news. The team behind Omnivore, my read-it-later service of choice, is joining ElevenLabs. That apparently means the end of Omnivore as a hosted service and presumably as a product, unless volunteers step forward to maintain the open source project. Self-hosting will be an option but it's not something that interests me.

Readwise Reader is the next best alternative in my eyes (I used it for a while before switching to Omnivore) but it isn't open source and it is pricy. I might actually start using Raindrop for articles as well as bookmarks. It doesn't offer the reading experience of Omnivore or Readwise, but it does have all of the organisational tools I need and there's something to be said for having all of my 'look at this later' links in one place.

This is a journal entry. It was worth mentioning at the time but I probably won't make changes to it, other than to fix mistakes. It was last updated .
