Wonders of the Solar System
Wow, I've just watched the brilliant first episode of Brian Cox's new BBC series, Wonders of the Solar System. This week, he witnesses a total solar eclipse on the banks of the Ganges in India (see the clip below), watches the Aurora Borealis in Norway and explains how the Voyager spacecraft (now the most distant objects we've ever made) are exploring the edge of the solar system and heading off into interstellar space.
The Solar Eclipse In Varanasi
Highly recommended, even if you're not a space geek like me. If you missed the first episode, it's repeated Tuesday night on BBC Two, or you can watch it now on iPlayer. It's even more amazing in HD I'd imagine.
Why does E=mc2?
If you're a fan of Brian Cox, I'd also recommend his book: Why Does E=mc2?. The maths is pretty bewildering at times (for me, anyway) but you can, as the book suggests, skip those bits and still understand the concepts.
