Mozilla yesterday announced an official release date for the long-awaited third version of the brilliant Firefox web browser.
Firefox 3 is based on the new Gecko 1.9 Web rendering platform which has received more than 14,000 updates over the last 34 months. We're promised improved performance, stability and rendering correctness and a more secure, easier to use and more personal application.
After more than 34 months of active development, and with the contributions of thousands, we're proud to announce that we're ready. It is our expectation to ship Firefox 3 this upcoming Tuesday, June 17th. Put on your party hats and get ready to download Firefox 3 - the best web browser, period.
As part of the launch celebrations, Mozilla wants to set a new Guinness World Record for Most Software Downloaded in 24 Hours. At the time of writing, 1,074,900 people have pledged to download Firefox 3 on launch day. There are plenty of other ways to get involved too.
