ExpressionEngine 2.0: The Preview
More powerful, more sexy and fully CodeIgnited.

As you know, I'm a fan of ExpressionEngine. You can imagine my excitement when I heard about the upcoming version 2.0 and eagerly scrambled to watch the preview video of the new control panel. It's certainly looking slick (shiny-shiny-ooooh-'ajax') and it looks like they've ironed out many of my pet hates from the existing UI.
Due for release this summer, EllisLab have announced that 2.0 is built on CodeIgniter, their Open Source PHP framework. In a recent blog post, Derek Allard promised benefits for both CodeIgniter developers and ExpressionEngine designers such as myself:
This is great news if you're an ExpressionEngine user, a CodeIgniter user, or both. As an ExpressionEngine developer you will have a greatly expanded community of talented developers working with you, and for you. … If you're a CodeIgniter developer, … you can drop a full-fledged content-management system right on top of your existing code base, and have it work.
Sounds good to me. Maybe I'll be brave and start tinkering with CodeIgniter.
